Making it Easier to Compost
Siting composting operations is challenging. GoZERO has been engaged with the Ohio EPA, Ohio Organics Council, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, and most recently, the Ohio House of Representatives.
The goal has been to get composting formally recognized as a type of production agriculture in Ohio. This would make it easier to site composting operations on agriculturally zoned land, and ultimately create more access to composting. Additionally, considerations relating to how composting feedstocks and stormwater run off are classified, and measures could further advance the composting industry. Breaking ground at Headwater Farms
It’s been a four-year process getting to where we are. This summer, we expect to break ground at Headwater Farms outside Columbus, OH, installing basic stormwater management systems to be ready to operationalize food waste composting there.
If you or anyone you know may be interested in hauling or disposing of plant, animal, or food waste to be composted, North and West of Columbus, let us know.
The GoZERO Institute is taking shape.
We’re excited to share that we’ve launched a charitable organization exclusively to champion food waste composting education. In-person and online programming is in the works. Be in touch to share ideas for how we might be able to help you with your food waste composting educational needs.
